Access Policy
The library serves primarily University of La Verne law faculty, students, and alumni. It is also open to other University of La Verne affiliates. Under special arrangements, the library is available to members of the Inland Empire Academic Libraries Cooperative, current students of ABA or State Bar accredited law schools and bar review students. Other members of the bar and the public can use the library by paying the $75.00 annual membership fee. Those who do not wish to sign up for membership may use the library for free as a first-time user. A fee of $10.00 per day will be charged for subsequent use of the library.
Anyone may use the library to access government documents free of charge. While the library is open to the public, it reserves the right to deny access to those who fail to observe its rules and regulations.
For more information, see the Access page.

Children must be accompanied by adults at all times.
Library staff cannot make photocopies for patrons.
Reference Desk
A professional librarian is available to provide research and reference assistance during most hours that the library is open, including evenings and weekends. On occasions, when there is no one at the reference desk, patrons should ask at the circulation desk for the Reference Librarian who is on-call.
General and subject-specific pathfinders and user guides are provided for library users to facilitate their use of library materials.
Circulating Materials
Presently, the library circulates only monographs. Books that are part of a multi-volume series do not circulate nor do volumes that need updating.
Only ULV faculty, staff, and students may borrow books. They must have their current university identification cards to check out books.
Circulation Counter and Reserve Stacks
A staff member or student assistant is available to answer directional questions and assist patrons with checking out of library materials and reserving a study/conference room.
Reserve materials, audiotapes and recorders, videotapes, law school exams and bar review materials are kept in the reserve stacks.
Reserve Materials
Law school texts, hornbooks and nutshells, and practice-oriented materials that are frequently used by patrons are kept in the reserve stacks behind the circulation counter.
Reserve materials may be checked out for use within the library for up to two hours.
Public Computer Terminals
There are four public computer terminals located near the library entrance, which allow users to access the Internet, the library's online public access catalog and the internet. These computers are connected to the printer in the computer lab.
LEOpac
Library users can search both the collection of the University's main library and law library via its online public access catalog, which is the LEOpac. LEOpac allows users to restrict their search to law library collection only.
LexisNexis and Westlaw
LexisNexis and Westlaw, two online legal research services, are available to law school faculty, staff, and students through individual passwords. Public access to Westlaw is available from one of the computer terminals in the entrance to the library. LexisNexis is not available to public users.
HeinOnline/LegalTrac/ILP
These online indices to legal periodicals are accessible via the Web to on-campus library users only.
CALI
These interactive, computer-based tutorials on various law school subjects are accessible to law faculty and students, who must register with CALI to use this service. The school's authorization code is available from the reference librarians.
Interlibrary Loans
Law faculty, staff, and student may request materials that are not available in the law library to be borrowed from other institutions through Interlibrary Loan. The law library also makes its circulating collection available to other libraries through the same service.
Recent Materials
Current issues of legal periodicals, as well as California legislative bills from the current session are kept in the reserve stacks.
Past Exams
Electronic copies of past law school exams are available on the library's web site through the Student Resources page. The User ID and password are available from the reference librarians.
Microforms
A large number of library materials are kept in microform. A row of black filing cabinets containing this microform is at the south end of the library behind the computer lab. A microforms reader-printer is in Room 124.
Photocopies
Two photocopy machines for library patrons are in Room 137 near the circulation desk. Copies can be made only from copycards, which are available through a vending machine in the copy room. Copycards preloaded with 5 copies can be purchased for $1.00. Additional copies can be added to the copycards at 10 cents per copy.

Only ULV faculty, staff, and students have access to the ULV network, and they must re-register their laptop for access each academic year. Check with Computer Support staff for connectivity specifications.
Quiet Area
The north, west, and south sides of the library have been designated quiet areas where talking is to be kept to a minimum. These areas are for studying only. In other areas of the library, voices should be kept lowered to prevent bothering other students and library users.
Leisure Reading Area
A soft-seating area right outside the computer lab is designated for leisure reading. A rack full of popular magazines is provided for students and other patrons.
Emergency Exits
There are three exits available for leaving the library in the event of an emergency. In addition to the main entrance on the east side of the building, there are marked emergency exits on the south and west sides. These exits are alarmed to prevent their use during normal operation. Maps showing the route to the nearest exit are posted throughout the law school building.

Restrooms for library patrons are located in the lobby just outside the main entrance to the library and on the south wall, past the study rooms and carrels.
