Submissions


The University of La Verne Law Review publishes Articles (including Essays and Book Reviews) and student-written Notes and Comments.  Pieces are accepted from any author holding a J.D. or other equivalent degree for consideration as an Article, while Note and Comment submissions are accepted from currently-enrolled law students, including but not limited to students at the University of La Verne College of Law.

Submitting an Article

Article selection is complete for Volume 29. We will begin reviewing submissions for Volume 30 on March 15, although submissions are accepted at any time.

Symposium Contributions

The Symposium Issue topic will be announced no later than May 1, 2008. Authors are invited to submit article proposals before August 1, 2008, and under proper circumstances, the University of La Verne Law Review will enter into a binding Pre-publication Agreement on the strength of an article proposal. Authors with published work in the Symposium topic area will be given preference. To ensure publication, articles covered by Pre-publication Agreements must be delivered to the University of La Verne Law Review by January 1, 2009. Completed articles for the Symposium Issue may also be submitted before January 1, 2009.

Submitting a Note/Comment

Note and Comment selection is complete for Volume 29. There are two deadlines for the submission of Comments for Volume 30: September 1, 2008 (for the Juvenile Law issue to be published in December, 2008) and February 1, 2009 (for the Symposium Issue to be published in May, 2009).

We strongly prefer submissions via ExpressO. Please note that if you are submitting via ExpressO, we do not send a separate acknowledgement of receipt; the only acknowledgement that your manuscript has been received will come from ExpressO.

If you must submit a hard copy, please mail your submission to:

Submissions should be:
In hard copy (no email submissions, please);
Type-written;
On 8 1/2" x 11" white paper;
In footnote format, not endnotes; and
Bound with a paperclip or binder clip (not stapled or in a folder).
Additionally, they should include the following:
A table of contents;
An abstract;
The author’s CV; and
A cover letter with the author’s name, address, telephone number, and email address.

We do not accept email submissions.
Submissions will not be returned.

Withdrawing Your Submission

The author should notify the Articles Department as soon as possible if he/she is withdrawing an article. The Articles Department appreciates knowing which journal is publishing the article.

Offer of Publication

A member of the Editorial Board will contact you by phone and/or email with an offer of publication. Once you accept theUniversity of La Verne Law Review’s offer, we expect you to withdraw your article from all other law reviews.

Upon acceptance of our offer, authors will receive an instruction letter, a copyright/licensing agreements for signature, and a request to forward an electronic copy of your article (preferably in Microsoft Word format) to the Editor-in-Chief.

Authors receive a PDF file of their article and three hard copies of the issue of the University of La Verne Law Review in which the article appears. Additional reprints are to be ordered directly from the publisher, and the price of additional reprints varies based on the length of the article.
