Professor McMurtry-Chubb joined the College of Law faculty in 2009 as Director of Legal Analysis and Writing and Assistant Professor of Law. McMurtry-Chubb teaches Legal Writing, Professional Responsibility, Legal History, Critical Legal Studies, Comparative Gender Studies and Hegemony Studies.  She has lectured nationally on workplace discrimination, disproportionate sentencing for African Americans, racial and gender inequalities in post-secondary education, and African diasporic cultural forms. She was the co-founder and first coordinator of Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Law, Diversity and Justice. Professor McMurtry-Chubb was the first person of color ever to be hired at the law firm of Huber, Book, Cortese, Happe & Brown, P.L.C. in Des Moines, IA.  McMurtry-Chubb became the first African-American woman hired as a law clerk for the 5th Judicial District of Iowa. She has chaired the Iowa National Bar Association.
