Career Services for Students

The University of La Verne College of Law Career Services Office provides comprehensive career and professional development services and resources to assist you in achieving your career goals. Some of the services and resources provided include:
Career Counseling
Our currently enrolled students can schedule an appointment for career counseling services to assist in identifying personal career goals, exploring areas of law, and identifying job search resources that will help you in pursing your career goals in the legal profession. We encourage you to make an appointment for an individual counseling session or to review your résumé or other job search documents or just to visit about your career goals.
Career Planning and Professional Development Resources
The Career Services Office has a wide variety of publications and resource materials available for our students on topics such as job search document preparation, interviewing skills, alternative career paths, and judicial clerkships. A list of available resources, as well as handouts and brochures on employment topics can be found in our office in Room 209.
Informational Programming/Presentations
The Career Services Office sponsors numerous informational sessions, workshops, presentations, and panel discussions throughout the year on topics such as résumé and cover letter preparation, effective interviewing techniques, job search strategies, researching legal employers, and judicial clerkships. In addition, prominent legal professionals visit our campus to present information on the current legal job market and to participate in panel discussions.
Networking Opportunities
Our students have ample opportunities both on and off-campus to network with professionals in the legal profession from throughout Southern California. The University of La Verne College of Law Career Services Office sponsors speakers, panel discussions, alumni networking receptions, and updated information on local speakers and presentations at other law schools in Southern California.
Bar Association Events
Our office keeps up-to-date information for all of the local bar association events including information from the San Bernardino County Bar Association, the Riverside County Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Lesbian & Gay Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, the California Association of Black Lawyers, and La Raza Lawyers of California, just to name a few. Application materials for these, and many more, are available in our office.
MCLE Programs
Several times a year, the University of La Verne College of Law sponsors MCLE programs, both on and off-campus for our students, alumni, and local Southern California attorneys. Our students and alumni are notified of these opportunities as they become available.
Study Abroad Programs
Study Abroad Programs throughout the country supply us with information on their upcoming programs on a yearly basis. Contact the Career Services Office for more information on these programs.
Employment and Skill Development Opportunities
The Career Services Office provides information on many different types of paid employment opportunities including part-time and full-time academic year positions, part-time and full-time summer positions, internships, permanent positions for recent graduates, post J.D. programs, and judicial clerkships. These opportunities are provided by small, medium, and large firms as well as government agencies, public interest organizations, corporate legal departments, judicial clerkships, and fellowships. These positions range from short term research projects to experienced attorney positions. Information regarding these opportunities is made available to our students through our e-mail job listing notification service.
We are also members of the Intercollegiate Job Bank which is a consortium of over 100 ABA law schools who share their job postings with each other, and we provide access for our currently enrolled students to LawCrossing, the largest collection of active legal jobs in the world. We also subscribe to the Government Honors & Internship Handbook published by the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, which listed hundreds of employment opportunities throughout the country. These resources are available to our current students and alumni and require a pass code to access.
In addition, as a member of OSCAR (Online System for Clerkship Applications & Review), our students have access to the latest judicial clerkship openings around the country. Currently enrolled students and alumni can contact the Career Services Office to learn more about accessing this site.
Volunteer Opportunities
The University of La Verne College of Law also provides opportunities for our students to pursue volunteer pubic interest opportunities through externships provided by our Clinical Program. For more information regarding externships, please make an appointment to visit with the Director of Clinical Programs, Professor Jane Egly, by calling (909) 460-2042. Additionally, students may participate in our pro bono programs, volunteering in our on-campus clinics and at off-campus locations. On-Campus Interview program (OCI)
Employers visit our campus during the Fall and Spring semester to interview our students for paid and volunteer employment opportunities. Currently enrolled students may participate in on-campus interview opportunities by registering with the Career Services Office.
Career Fairs
As a member of the Law School Career Advisors (L.S.C.A.) consortium of Southern California which includes California Western School of Law, Chapman University School of Law, Loyola Law School, Pepperdine University School of Law, Southwestern University School of Law, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, UCLA School of Law, University of San Diego School of Law, University of Southern California Law School, Western State University College of Law, Whittier Law School, and the University of La Verne College of Law, our students have access to all of the career fairs that are co-sponsored by the members of the consortium. In addition, the University of La Verne College of Law hosts an Inland region career fair each spring semester for externships, internships, part-time and full-time employment opportunities.
