The Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

General Information

Candidates for admission to the University of La Verne College of Law must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The LSAT, administered by the Law School Admission Council, is a half-day standardized test offered four times per year.

The LSAT measures skills considered essential for success in law school:

  • reading and comprehension of complex texts with accuracy and insight
  • organization and management of information and the ability to draw reasonable inferences from that information
  • ability to think critically
  • analysis and evaluation of the reasoning and argument of others

The LSAT exam consists of five 35-minute sections of multiple-choice questions. Four of the five sections contribute to the final score. These sections include one reading comprehension section, one analytical section, and two logical reasoning sections. The fifth section is used to pre-test new test items. A writing sample is administered at the end of the test. LSAC does not score the writing sample; however, all law schools to which the candidate applies receive copies of the writing sample. The score scale for the LSAT is 120 to 180, with 120 the lowest possible score and 180 the highest possible score. The 120 to 180 scale was designed to have a mean of approximately 150.

Please check the LSAT/LSDAS Registration & Information booklet for test locations. To order its booklet, contact Law Services at (215) 968-1001, or visit their Web site at www.lsac.org.
