Step 1: Complete Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Electronic FAFSA and Electronic Renewal FAFSA may be completed on the Web. A PIN to e-sign the application may be requested online during the FAFSA application process, or in advance at http://www.pin.ed.gov.

Step 2: Fulfill Requests for Supporting Documentation

When your financial aid application is processed, you will receive written notification from our office if you are required to send any additional forms. The U.S. Department of Education may require documentation of  U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizen status, Selective Service registration, clearance from defaulted educational loans, or a photocopy of your Social Security card. Some students are randomly selected by the Federal processor for an auditing process called verification. If you are required to provide additional documents a notification letter will be sent to the address listed on your FAFSA form.

Step 3: Review Your Award Letter and Accept your Loans

Four to six weeks after you have been formally admitted to La Verne College of Law and your FAFSA has been processed you can expect to receive an award letter detailing your Financial Aid eligibility. After you have reviewed your award, the next step will be for you to log onto MyLaVerne to accept or decline any loans.

The first time you log into the system your USER ID will be your College of Law Identification number, and your password (if you have not already customized it) will be your six-digit date of birth. Once you are inside MyULV you can click on the "Student Services & Financial Aid" tab, and then select the "Financial Aid Information” menu to see the financial aid offer that has been prepared for you. After you view your award you can click on “Select Award Offer by Aid Year” to accept or decline the loans. You must accept the loans you wish to borrow for the desired amount. Grants and scholarships are automatically accepted on your behalf. If you want to borrow a FFELP Graduate Plus Loan or a private alternative loan you must contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance with the process.

If you choose to borrow a FFELP Stafford loan or Grad Plus loan you must select a lender. You may select any lender that participates in the FFELP loan program. If you would like to use a loan comparison tool to help you in this part of the process we recommend the neutral platform compiled by The Greentree Gazette.

Step 4: Complete Loan Entrance Interviews

Before your school disburses your Federal Loans (Stafford or Graduate Plus program), regulations require that you complete an entrance counseling session. The counseling session provides information about how to manage your student loans, both during and after college. If you have been awarded a Perkins loan you must complete a mandatory entrance interview which will be sent to you.

Step 5: Complete Master Promissory Notes for Your Loans

Each year beginning in early August all accepted loans will be certified. When your loans have been certified with your chosen lender you will be able to complete the loan applications through their website. If you do not want to complete the application electronically you can contact your lender and request a paper copy to complete and return to your lender for processing.

Step 6: Disbursement of Loan Funds

Financial aid loan payments are normally received through electronic funds transfer (EFT). Funds are credited to your account after your financial aid application file is completed and all requirements have been satisfied.  When the funds arrive from the lender, the Office of Student Accounts will post the funds to the your account within three days. If a credit remains after all financial aid funds have been applied to the student’s account, the Office of Student Accounts will request and issue a refund within fourteen (14) business days.
