The University of La Verne College of Law encourages applicants to contact the state bar in those states in which they have an interest to secure information on the bar examination and certain character requirements. Bar examiners in most states review the character and fitness of applicants for a law license and seek background information on each applicant that is relevant to the appropriateness of granting a professional credential.

Tuition, Fees, and Living Costs:

Financial Aid:
The University of La Verne, in an attempt to bring higher education within the reach of qualified men and women, makes financial assistance available through a variety of grants, scholarships, and loan programs. Generous merit scholarships are available. Most loans are based upon the computed financial need of the student as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filed with the appropriate federal processing contractor.

Tuition Refund/Credit Policy:
The University of La Verne refund/credit policy is as follows: withdrawal during the first week of classes, 100% refund/credit; withdrawal during the second week of classes, 75% refund/credit; withdrawal during the third week of classes, 50% refund/credit; withdrawal after the third week of classes, no refund/credit. Students who have received (or whose accounts have been credited with) financial aid funds will have these funds returned to the appropriate financial aid programs before any refunds will be issued to the student.

As of the Fall 2007 semester, the College of Law employs 19 full-time faculty members, with an additional 13 adjunct professors.

The College of Law is committed to small class sizes; consequently, the student/faculty ratio is an excellent one:

Library Resources:
The primary function of the Law Library is to meet the study and research needs of the College of Law’s student body and faculty. The collection includes federal and California statutory law, court opinions, administrative rules and regulations, all titles of the California Continuing Education of the Bar, major treatises on a variety of legal topics, form and practice books, and numerous legal periodicals. The Law Library’s print and microform holdings exceed 280,000 volumes. The Law Library is continually updating its core collection by supplementing present holdings and adding additional materials from other jurisdictions and areas of the law.

The Law Library has a variety of advanced electronic research methods available for student use. Most applications are accessible via the Internet on a wireless network, so students and faculty are able to conduct research from various access points. Among the products available are Westlaw and LexisNexis (online computerized legal research databases), LegalTrac (a legal periodical index), Hein Online (a full-text archive of legal journals), a growing number of additional databases, and the Internet. Students and other users of the Law Library may check the availability of resources through the University’s online catalog, LEOPAC.

The College of Law Library also serves as a selective depository for federal and California state government documents.

The Law Library is open seven days a week, with late night hours Monday through Thursday. Library staff are available to assist in locating desired materials. Reference services may also be arranged. For additional information regarding the Law Library, contact (909) 460-2070.

Physical Facilities:
In January 2001, the University of La Verne College of Law opened the doors to its state-of-the-art law campus in the City of Ontario, in Southern California’s Inland Empire, one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas of the United States.

The College of Law is located on a seven-acre site next to the Ontario Civic Center and the new Ontario City Library. With a spacious atrium tower and well-appointed classrooms, seminar rooms and a courtroom, the College of Law building has approximately 64,000 square feet. Classrooms are equipped with the latest in audiovisual technologies, and Internet access is provided throughout campus via a combination of hardwired and wireless connections. The College of Law moot courtroom is equipped with a cutting edge digital video recording and editing system. Additionally, the computer lab provides 30 up-to-date student workstations.

The University’s alumni are represented in all areas of law in both private and public sectors. The College of Law offers a number of professional career services, including counseling and workshops on job search techniques, résumé writing and interview skills; career seminars with potential employers, including various law firms, business organizations and government agencies; job placement/job matching services for students and alumni; and business networking.
