University of La Verne College of Law, Federal Bar Association Honors
Top Students for Giving to Law School

Ontario, Calif., December 21, 2007 – The University of La Verne College of Law and the Inland Empire chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA) honored Tina Chen and Steven Messner this semester for their academic achievement, service to the law school and commitment to fellow students.

Chen and Messner are high-ranking students who have admirably represented ULV College of Law in moot court competitions. They have also served as tutors to entering law students seeking academic assistance through the College of Law’s own Peer Assistance and Support System (PASS).

ULV College of Law’s Acting Dean, H. Randall Rubin, made the presentation to Chen and Messner on behalf of the Federal Bar Association at an evening gala in November, which also included the installation of the Inland Empire Federal Bar Association chapter’s 2008 officers. More than one hundred Southern California judges, academics and attorneys were in attendance, including law school dean Kenneth Starr of Pepperdine, who delivered the evening’s address.

The Federal Bar Association (FBA) is a professional network of private and government lawyers in federal practice with over 16,000 members nationally. In 2001, the Inland Empire chapter of the FBA adopted the University of La Verne College of Law as its law school, supporting the law school’s vision to make students aware of the career opportunities that exist in the federal legal community. Professor Charles Doskow, a former dean of the College of Law, is a past president of the Inland chapter of the FBA and has served on its board for more than six years. Federal Judge Stephen Larson, an adjunct professor at the College of Law, is also an active FBA member.
