For Immediate Release Contact: Professors Bridge Gap Between ULV Students & L.A. Entertainment Attorneys Ontario, Calif., December 12, 2007 - Professors Ashley Lipson and Anita Stuppler are working to bridge the gap between the University of La Verne College of Law and the Los Angeles entertainment scene located fifty miles west. Together, they volunteer countless hours in both Beverly Hills and Ontario to provide networking opportunities for ULV law students interested in pursuing careers in sports and entertainment law. “In 2003, the College of Law started the Sports and Entertainment Law Society as a way of providing our students a forum to explore legal issues and trends in sports and entertainment law,” said Professor Stuppler. “The Beverly Hills Bar Association has been extremely supportive of our vision and offers our Sports & Entertainment Law Society members reduced fee memberships in the Beverly Hills Bar Association so they’re able to attend all of its social activities and professional development programs.” As co-faculty advisors for ULV’s Sports and Entertainment Law Society, Professors Lipson and Stuppler have supported ULV law students and the Beverly Hills Barristers (the Beverly Hills Bar’s youngest attorneys) by coordinating “And Justice for All.” For two consecutive years, this panel of distinguished judges, attorneys, law school deans and politicians have discussed issues regarding equal access to justice. The ULV professors have also called upon personal and professional contacts to provide top-quality speakers for the Sports and Entertainment Law Society. In August, Stuppler arranged for David Krumholtz from CBS’s hit show “NUMB3RS” to visit ULV to discuss the pros and cons of actor/attorney relationships. More recently, the professors called upon Phil Margo of The Tokens (known for its recording of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”), professional and personal manager Dolores Cantu (who also appeared in Saturday Night Fever) and Newport Beach-based intellectual property law attorney John Connors to talk to ULV students about the realities of a career in entertainment law. Currently, Professors Stuppler and Lipson are planning future installments of “Night at the Movies,” monthly social events where ULV students and BHBA members watch law-related movies at interesting venues. They are also planning a brunch with the Beverly Hills Barristers for early 2008 that would provide an additional opportunity for law students to network with sports and entertainment law practitioners. “There are so many opportunities available to students interested in sports and entertainment law careers,” said Professor Stuppler. “It is our hope that the relationship ULV is building with the Beverly Hills Bar Association will allow students a better understanding of what awaits them when they graduate.” The volunteer work has also transcended into Professor Stuppler’s own life. Earlier this year, the adjunct professor became a formal member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. Professor Lipson is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar’s Order of Distinguished Attorneys.
