University of La Verne College of Law Celebrates New Attorneys
July 2007 California bar exam passers are honored at semi-annual swearing in ceremony

Ontario, Calif., December 4, 2007 – More than 70 administrators, faculty members, students, alumni and family members gathered in the Michael & Jeanette Bidart Moot Courtroom at the University of La Verne College of Law last evening to honor the law school’s July 2007 California Bar Exam passers. In attendance were Retired Judge Paul Egly, the law school’s founding dean, and Honorable Stephen Larson, a U.S. District Judge for the Central District of California’s Eastern Division to administer the attorney’s oaths for the California State Bar and United States District Court, respectively.

“There are three events in the life of a law school that we, the faculty, find rewarding,” said ULV’s Acting Dean, Randall Rubin. “The first is new student orientation…the second is graduation…and the third is this ceremony.”

29 of the 51 ULV alumni who took the bar exam passed it, generating a 56.8% pass rate for the provisionally ABA approved law school, on par with the exam’s overall pass rate of 56.1%. The pass rate for first-time takers from ABA-accredited schools in California was 76%. The pass rate for first-time takers from State-accredited schools was 32%.

“Without a doubt, the California bar exam is the most difficult bar exam in the United States,” said Professor Anita Stuppler, the law school’s bar exam coordinator. “The three-day exam consists of six essays, two three-hour performance tests and 200 multiple choice questions covering more than a dozen areas of the law.”
