College of Law Has Strong “Sense of Community”
According to 2005 Student Survey
Ontario, Calif., November 23, 2005 – While the ABA committee deliberates, the University of La Verne College of Law continues to succeed in its mission to provide an individualized legal education to its students, according to its Fall 2005 “Sense of Community” survey, conducted among second and third year law students.
“The results from this survey indicate that we are on the right path,” said Dean Donald J. Dunn. “Our small class sizes, greater emphasis on the individual and personalized career development are very important to our students.”
Highlights of the Fall 2005 survey include:
- 96% of respondents believe the College of Law is a good place to study to become a lawyer.
- 91% expect to stay at the College until they graduate.
- 91% believe the school is a safe place to study.
- 79% feel at home on the campus.
- 77% believe they belonged in the college “very much.”
- 76% agree their faculty advisors were readily available for consultations.
- 72% agree faculty members are readily available for consultations.
- 71% agree they could count on people in the school for help in an emergency.
- 59% agree it would take a lot for them to leave the college.
- 21% believe very few of the faculty and administration/staff know them.
When asked about the thing they would most like changed at the College of Law, students replied that they would like to see the law school ABA accredited, and they would like to see a change in both the grading system and the campus food choices.
When asked about the thing they liked most, students praised the faculty, the people they interact with and the College of Law’s small class sizes.
