ULV College of Law Forms Federalist Society Student Chapter
Ontario, Calif., November 22, 2006 – The University of La Verne College of Law announced today it has established a student chapter of the Federalist Society, joining a national network of over 35,000 attorneys, faculty members and law students dedicated to upholding the Constitution through community service.
“At the College of Law, we are committed to serving the community as a valuable legal resource,” explained Dean Donald Dunn. “Establishing a student chapter of the Federalist Society allows our students another means of demonstrating this commitment.”
Founded by a group of law students in 1982, the Federalist Society is comprised of attorneys, academics, law students and others dedicated to its mission of (1) upholding each individual’s right to freedom, (2) supporting the Constitutional separation of powers and (3) ensuring the judiciary strictly interprets the Constitution as written rather than as could be implied.
Members of the organization will uphold the Society’s mission by organizing public lectures and colloquia, networking events, pro bono service projects and social activities focused on preserving each individual’s freedom, the rule of law and traditional values. Further, the newly-formed chapter will provide a forum for ULV law students with diverse points of view to engage in debate and dialogue.
“The formation of a Federalist Society Chapter at the College of Law exemplifies the vibrant quality of legal and policy discourse ongoing here, among our students as well as our faculty,” explained Professor John Linarelli, the Chapter’s faculty advisor. Professor Linarelli said, “Our law students are critically engaged in the important public policy questions of our time. I look forward to the Federalist Society having a prominent role among the diverse student groups we have here at our College of Law.”
The College of Law’s Federalist Society student chapter is comprised of 30 founding members. Inaugural officers for the student organization include President Joseph Johnson, Vice-President John Molitoris, Secretary Jorge Pena and Treasurer Jeff Roberts.
