LAW UNIVERSITY WELCOMES FOUR NEW FACULTY MEMBERS

ONTARIO, CA (August 24, 2004) – The University of La Verne College of Law has announced the addition of four new faculty members to its team. The new hires include Kevin Marshall, Donna Greschner, Diane Klein and Kathy Garcia. The additions bring the College of Law faculty to 17 full-time professors to accommodate 225 students, up 13 percent from last year.

“There’s a direct correlation between our quality of faculty and our ability to attract a growing top-rate student body,” said Randy Rubin, associate dean and professor for the College of Law. “The result is that our students consistently outperform the state’s average bar pass rate and job placements.”

Kevin S. Marshall, hired to teach antitrust law in addition to law and economics, brings with him 20 years of practical experience and more than 10 years of teaching experience. Marshall served as the executive director of the Institute for Policy and Studies and Information Services in Texas. He was also the president and shareholder of Law Offices of Kevin S. Marshall, P.C. in Dallas, as well as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University, Dedman College Department of Economics in Texas. Marshall holds a Ph.D. in political economy and a master’s degree in public affairs (M.P.A.) from the University of Texas, a juris doctor from Emory University School of Law and a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Knox College, Illinois.

Donna Greschner, hired to teach constitutional law, health care law and policy, and public health law, brings more than 20 years of teaching experience and public service to La Verne. A recipient of the University of Saskatchewan’s Master Teacher Award, where she was a professor of law, she served as a visiting professor at McGill University, University of Toronto in Canada and Griffith University in Australia. As a constitutional lawyer, Greschner has been actively involved in advising governments in Canada on constitutional reform and litigation, and she was also an advisor to the African National Congress and the Constitutional Assembly of South Africa. Greschner’s public service includes a term on the Canadian Human Rights Commission and pro bono work for many non-governmental organizations. Recently, she was a consultant to Canada’s national health care reform commission. Greschner holds business and law degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and a graduate degree in law from Oxford University.

Hired as visiting professor under the “Look/See” visitorship program, Diane Klein will teach property and wills at the College of Law. Klein has approximately 10 years of experience in various litigation departments and more than 15 years of teaching experience. She served as an assistant professor of law at the Texas Southern University and an associate professor of law at Albany Law School, as well as a clerk to Honorable Lourdes Baird of the United States District Court, an associate in the entertainment litigation department of Kay, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler, LLP, and research director at Legal Research Network. Klein attended Harvard Law School and graduated with a juris doctor from the UCLA School of Law. She is currently completing a Ph.D. in philosophy from UC Berkeley.

Kathy Garcia, 2003 valedictorian for the College of Law, will serve as a visiting assistant professor for the legal writing course at the College of Law in addition to coordinating all academic support programs, including the Peer Advising Support System (PASS) and the Graduate Mentor Program. Honors and activities include: Journal of Juvenile Law Senior Staff Writer; CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Constitutional Law, Evidence, Wills and Trusts, Professional Responsibility and Property; First Place Petitioner Brief at the 2001 Pepperdine Entertainment Law National Moot Court Competition; Second Place Petitioner Brief and Third Place Team at the 2002 Hispanic National Bar Association National Moot Court Competition; and Third Place Respondent Brief and Semi-Finalist Team at the 2003 Hispanic National Bar Association National Moot Court Competition, among others.
