LAW UNIVERSITY WELCOMES FOUR NEW FACULTY
MEMBERS
ONTARIO, CA (August 24, 2004) The University of La Verne
College of Law has announced the addition of four new faculty
members to its team. The new hires include Kevin Marshall, Donna
Greschner, Diane Klein and Kathy Garcia. The additions bring the
College of Law faculty to 17 full-time professors to accommodate
225 students, up 13 percent from last year.
Theres a direct correlation between our quality of
faculty and our ability to attract a growing top-rate student
body, said Randy Rubin, associate dean and professor for
the College of Law. The result is that our students consistently
outperform the states average bar pass rate and job placements.
Kevin S. Marshall, hired to teach antitrust law in addition to
law and economics, brings with him 20 years of practical experience
and more than 10 years of teaching experience. Marshall served
as the executive director of the Institute for Policy and Studies
and Information Services in Texas. He was also the president and
shareholder of Law Offices of Kevin S. Marshall, P.C. in Dallas,
as well as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University,
Dedman College Department of Economics in Texas. Marshall holds
a Ph.D. in political economy and a masters degree in public
affairs (M.P.A.) from the University of Texas, a juris doctor
from Emory University School of Law and a bachelor of arts degree
in economics from Knox College, Illinois.
Donna Greschner, hired to teach constitutional law, health care
law and policy, and public health law, brings more than 20 years
of teaching experience and public service to La Verne. A recipient
of the University of Saskatchewans Master Teacher Award,
where she was a professor of law, she served as a visiting professor
at McGill University, University of Toronto in Canada and Griffith
University in Australia. As a constitutional lawyer, Greschner
has been actively involved in advising governments in Canada on
constitutional reform and litigation, and she was also an advisor
to the African National Congress and the Constitutional Assembly
of South Africa. Greschners public service includes a term
on the Canadian Human Rights Commission and pro bono work for
many non-governmental organizations. Recently, she was a consultant
to Canadas national health care reform commission. Greschner
holds business and law degrees from the University of Saskatchewan
and a graduate degree in law from Oxford University.
Hired as visiting professor under the Look/See visitorship
program, Diane Klein will teach property and wills at the College
of Law. Klein has approximately 10 years of experience in various
litigation departments and more than 15 years of teaching experience.
She served as an assistant professor of law at the Texas Southern
University and an associate professor of law at Albany Law School,
as well as a clerk to Honorable Lourdes Baird of the United States
District Court, an associate in the entertainment litigation department
of Kay, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler, LLP, and research
director at Legal Research Network. Klein attended Harvard Law
School and graduated with a juris doctor from the UCLA School
of Law. She is currently completing a Ph.D. in philosophy from
UC Berkeley.
Kathy Garcia, 2003 valedictorian for the College of Law, will
serve as a visiting assistant professor for the legal writing
course at the College of Law in addition to coordinating all academic
support programs, including the Peer Advising Support System (PASS)
and the Graduate Mentor Program. Honors and activities include:
Journal of Juvenile Law Senior Staff Writer; CALI Excellence for
the Future Awards in Constitutional Law, Evidence, Wills and Trusts,
Professional Responsibility and Property; First Place Petitioner
Brief at the 2001 Pepperdine Entertainment Law National Moot Court
Competition; Second Place Petitioner Brief and Third Place Team
at the 2002 Hispanic National Bar Association National Moot Court
Competition; and Third Place Respondent Brief and Semi-Finalist
Team at the 2003 Hispanic National Bar Association National Moot
Court Competition, among others.
