Dean Allen K. Easley Begins Today at the University of La Verne
College of Law

Ontario, Calif., July 1, 2008 – With applications reaching an all-time high and the start of the 2008-2009 academic year a little over a month away, today marks Allen K. Easley’s first day as dean at the University of La Verne College of Law. Dean Easley succeeds Dean Donald J. Dunn, who passed away from cancer in January of this year, and Interim Dean H. Randall Rubin, who served in the law school’s chief post when Dean Dunn took medical leave in mid-2007.

“Dean Easley is well-qualified to lead our College of Law through the remaining steps in the American Bar Association approval process,” said University President Stephen Morgan. “He has served on more than 15 ABA site inspection teams, some of which have inspected provisionally ABA-approved law schools, as well as the ABA’s Standards Review Committee. We are thrilled to welcome him to the University of La Verne.”

An educator with nearly 30 years of experience, Dean Easley comes to La Verne directly from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he served as dean and professor of Law. His administrative experience includes 13 years as the associate dean of academic affairs at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas.

Highly-respected in the legal and academic communities, Dean Easley has published several articles, including a groundbreaking piece on the 11th Amendment entitled, “The Supreme Court and the Eleventh Amendment: Mourning the Lost Opportunity to Synthesize Conflicting Precedents.” The article is included in a leading federal court casebook published by The Foundation Press (“Federal Courts and the Law of Federal-State Relations”) and has been cited in several law reviews.

Dean Easley received his legal training from Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, graduated magna cum laude and became an associate at Egnal & Egnal, P.A. He then became a senior law clerk for Pennsylvania U.S. District Court Judge Herbert A. Fogel.

He transitioned into academia at Temple University School of Law while pursuing his LL.M. degree, serving as a lecturer in law and a graduate teaching fellow. His areas of legal expertise include Civil Procedure, Complex Litigation, Conflict of Laws and the Federal Courts.
“La Verne College of Law is a school on the rise with a very bright future ahead,” said Dean Easley. “I’m enthusiastic about the gains it’s made thus far in achieving provisional ABA approval, and I’m looking forward to continuing that momentum.”
