LA VERNE LAW STUDENTS COMPETE IN QUARTER-FINALS AT
NATIONAL FREDERICK DOUGLASS MOOT COURT COMPETITION

Ontario, Calif., March 29, 2007University of La Verne College of Law’s Tina Barsotti and Brendan Gibson proved once again they have the practical skills characteristic of outstanding legal advocates. The duo just returned from the National Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition in Atlanta, where they argued before a team of judges in four rounds of competition.

“After arguing in three tough preliminary rounds over the course of two days, Tina and Brendan advanced to the ‘elite eight’ quarter-final round from a group of 18 teams at the national level of competition and 100 plus competitors overall. The team’s advancement to the quarter-finals speaks volumes about the quality of the performance they turned in,” said Professor Juanda Daniel, faculty coach for the moot court team. “They deserve the highest level of praise for their accomplishments.”

The Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition (FDMCC) is a two-tier competition sponsored by the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA). The ULV team’s first tier was the Western Regional, held on Feb. 15-17, in San Francisco. There, Barsotti and Gibson earned the competition’s “First Place Team” and “Best Petitioner’s Brief” awards.

The duo then advanced to the national competition, held Mar. 21-25, where they and three other teams placed 5 th through 8th in the quarter-final round.
