For Immediate Release Contact: ULV College of Law Fraternity Receives National Recognition Ontario, Calif., March 6, 2007 – Delta Theta Phi’s Egly Senate at the University of La Verne College of Law has received the law fraternity’s “2005-2006 Outstanding Senate of the Fraternity” award for its Senate’s increased membership, activities, and commitment to community and law school service. In addition, Alumnus Amy Jarvis, 2005-2006 dean of the Egly Senate, was named “Outstanding Student, Region One” for her leadership during the 2005-2006 academic year. Delta Theta Phi, a leading co-ed national fraternity, strives to foster lifelong friendships and professional affiliations through legal education, international networking, and mutual respect. In Fall 2005, ULV’s Egly Senate, named in honor of the College of Law’s founding dean, retired California Superior Court Judge Paul W. Egly, had 20 members. Today, it has 65. “During the past year, I have witnessed what I feel is one of the most dynamic and focused groups of officers to have guided the Egly Senate,” said Master Scholar Larry Meyer, one of the Supreme Senate’s nine board members and director of the San Bernardino County Law Library. “Not only did this group of officers focus on their Senate and its needs and support the law school in its efforts to achieve ABA approval, they did so while devoting time and effort to help the community as well as assist in supporting other Senates and in the efforts to reactivate additional Senates.” “As Senate Dean, Amy Jarvis paved the way for the fraternity’s commitment to excellence through her leadership skills, enthusiasm, and integrity,” said faculty advisor Susan Nauss Exon. “I am so proud of all members of the fraternity for their ingenuity as they planned a variety of community service projects as well as professional and social Senate activities.” Under Jarvis’ leadership, the Egly Senate accomplished the following projects during the 2005-2006 academic year, including a mini mock trial for third graders, a phone-a-thon notifying College of Law alumni of the law school’s receipt of provisional ABA accreditation, the dissemination of a judiciary “Fun Book” (a legal-themed coloring book for elementary students), and Katrina and tsunami fund drives in conjunction with Soroptimist International of Riverside, a local service organization. To assist members in need, Jarvis also established a textbook loan program, collecting and maintaining a store of used textbooks donated to the Senate by members and alumni. The fraternity’s ongoing activities include its Big Brother/Big Sister program, its “Tips for Surviving Law School” seminars, and its annual Toy Drive for the Boys and Girls Club of Pomona.
