ULV Law Prof Travels to Jordan

Ontario, Calif., March 6, 2007 – Beginning in March, University of La Verne College of Law professor Charles S. Doskow will join the American Bar Association’s (ABA’s) Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (CEELI), spending three months in Amman, Jordan as a legal education consultant to Jordanian law schools. Once there, he will assist in the development and enhancement of the country’s law school curricula and teaching methods.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to be of service,” said Professor Charles Doskow of ULV College of Law. “ABA-CEELI has had a presence in Jordan for several years now and has established a productive working relationship with the Jordanian legal education community.”

ABA CEELI volunteers promote the rule of law in Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia and the Middle East through public service in a variety of legal areas, including anti-corruption/public integrity, human rights and conflict mitigation, criminal law reform and combating human trafficking, gender issues, judicial reform, legal education reform and legal profession reform. Those seeking to do public service through CEELI are matched with participating countries based on need and the applicant’s academic or professional legal experience.

A 26-year veteran of ULV College of Law, Professor Charles Doskow has been instrumental in the law school’s growth, serving as its dean from 1980 to 1985 and witnessing first-hand its receipt of provisional ABA accreditation in 2006. A past president of the San Bernardino County Bar Association, the Western San Bernardino County Bar Association and the Inland Empire Chapter of the Inland Bar Association, Doskow continues serve the regional legal community as a frequent CLE lecturer, a columnist for the Los Angeles Daily Journal and San Francisco Daily Journal, and as a legal commentator on public radio. He currently teaches constitutional law, insurance law and professional responsibility.

In addition to his public service in Jordan, Professor Doskow’s Spring 2007 sabbatical will include teaching a one-week course in torts in the common law at the University of Münster in Münster, Germany.

Those seeking additional information about Professor Doskow’s upcoming CEELI assignment can contact him directly at (909) 460-2041 or at Dosklaw@aol.com. For general information about the American Bar Association’s CEELI program, visit http://www.abanet.org/ceeli/home.html.
