DONALD DUNN NAMED DEAN OF UNIVERSITY OF
LA VERNE COLLEGE OF LAW
ONTARIO, CA. (JAN. 31, 2003) The University of
La Verne College of Law today announced Donald J. Dunn has been
appointed as dean. He currently serves as Associate Dean for Library
and Information Resources and Professor of Law at Western New
England College School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dunn
served as dean for five years at Western New England College School
of Law. He has significant experience consulting with law schools
applying for American Bar Association approval and has served
as a member of more than 40 ABA site evaluation teams.
"Don brings a wealth of experience that will benefit our
students and the greater legal community here in the Inland Empire,"
said Dr. Richard L. McDowell, Provost and Vice President for Academic
Affairs. "His experience as a law school administrator and
background as a consultant and ABA site team evaluator make him
highly qualified to lead the College of Law as we prepare for
the rigorous ABA approval review process later this year. His
insight as a recent member of the Law School Admissions Council
also gives us an edge in the highly competitive law school admissions
environment."
Dunns background also includes posts at the University
of Texas at Austin, Tarlton Law Library, service on many legal
advisory committees and author of numerous publications, including
co-authoring in 2002 Fundamentals of Legal Research, 8th edition,
the leading text in the field.
"The University of La Verne College of Law is committed to
excellence, cares deeply about its students and has a strong faculty
and administrative team," said Dunn. "I am delighted
to lead the College of Law to even greater success in the future."
Dunn graduated from Western New England College School of Law
earning his Juris Doctorate in 1983. He received his Master of
Library Science in 1972 and Bachelor of Arts in 1969 from the
University of Texas at Austin.
Dunn will replace Interim Dean H. Randall Rubin who has served
as acting dean since July 2002. Dunn plans several trips to campus
and numerous phone conferences and email exchanges with College
of Law and University personnel prior to assuming official duties
on June 1, 2003.
