INTERNATIONAL ROUNDTABLE ON THE LEGAL AND
ETHICAL TREATMENT OF HORSES PRESENTED AT ULV COLLEGE OF LAW
ONTARIO, CA. (JAN. 30, 2003) University of La
Verne College of Law hosted a roundtable in collaboration with
Western University College of Veterinary Medicine on January 16,
2003, featuring a prominent panel of equine experts discussing
current issues, ethics and public policy developments regarding
horses.
The free public roundtable titled "Legal and Ethical
Uses of Horses" featured an international panel of experts
on equine law and ethics. Topics covered were horse abuse, the
role of the public in making public policy and developing ethics,
the ethics of aging horses, ethics and attorneys, and a question
and answer session.
Barry Peachey, L.L.M., S. TH., resident priest Oratory of St.
Benedict, Brigg England, Chairman, Animal and Equine Lawyers Association
(Brigg, England), led a discussion of The Ethics of the Aging
Equine.
Professor Sandra Tozzini, J.D., University of La Verne College
of Law, and Advisory Editorial Board member, Horse Law: The
Equine Law & Litigation Reports, led a discussion on Equines,
Ethics and Attorneys.
Gini Barrett, member, Los Angeles County Bar Association Biomedical
Ethics Committee and Associate Professor of Biomedical Ethics
and Public Policy, Western University College of Veterinary Medicine,
discussed The Role of Public Policy in the Development of Ethics.
Steve Wickler, D.V.M., Professor, Animal Science Department California
State Polytechnic University, Pomona, discussed Horse AbuseHow
to Know it When You See it.
