For Immediate Release Contact: U.S. District Judge Joins University of La Verne College of Law Ontario, Calif., January 13, 2009 – The University of La Verne College of Law is pleased to announce that United States District Judge Stephen G. Larson of the Central District of California has accepted a position at the college as Distinguished Jurist in Residence. “Judge Larson’s vast experience and the perspective he brings as a member of the federal bench will be an asset for the school and our professors but even more important, for our students,” La Verne Law Dean Allen K. Easley said. “His guidance as Distinguished Jurist in Residence and as a member of our Board of Visitors will help us take La Verne Law to the next level.” Judge Larson will take up residence this spring. Judge Larson presides in the Central District’s eastern division in Riverside, California, where he hears both civil and criminal cases. He has also served by designation on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He presently is chair of the Central District’s Attorney Liaison committee, a member of the Central District’s Executive Committee, and a member of the Ninth Circuit Jury Instruction Committee. Nominated by President Bush in December 2005, Judge Larson received a unanimous well-qualified endorsement from the American Bar Association and was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate in March 2006. “Judge Larson is an exemplary individual and his accomplishments as a civil servant and a judge are admirable,” said August Farnsworth, La Verne Law Interim Director of Career Services and Professional Development. “Students looking for a mentor will be well served in learning from him.” Judge Larson is active in various civic and legal associations, serving as president of the Leo A.
