Acclaimed Trial Attorney Thomas V. Girardi will Speak at 2008 COL Commencement

On Sunday, May 18, Thomas V. Girardi of Girardi & Keese will share his years of experience and personal insights with this year’s graduating class when he serves as keynote speaker for the 2008 University of La Verne College of Law Commencement Ceremony.

Thomas Girardi specializes in commercial litigation, product liability law, toxic torts and bad faith cases. He is a founding partner in Girardi & Keese, a firm that has won billions of dollars for its clients. It was his firm that argued the case against Pacific Gas & Electric alleging drinking water contamination in Hinckley, Calif., litigation later featured in the motion picture “Erin Brockovich.”

This year’s commencement features 78 students scheduled to receive degrees from Inland Southern California’s only American Bar Association-approved law school. The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. on the ULV College of Law campus, located at 320 E. D Street in Ontario. Due to space restrictions, entry to the 2008 ULV College of Law Commencement is limited to participants and invited guests. Campus parking is free, and directions to the campus can be found on our Web site.

Volume 29 of the University of La Verne Law Review has arrived!

Volume 29 is a special Symposium Issue, devoted to the issue of child soldiers. Lead articles were contributed by U.S. and international scholars, and three student Comments are also included, by Jordan Gilbertson '09, Charles Mayr '09, and Benjamin Ruesch '09. Professor Knolton will speak at premier Legal Writing Institute in July.
Assistant Professor Cristina Knolton will be presenting a talk entitled, "Incorporating Performance Exams Into a Legal Writing Course" at the 13th Biennial Conference of the Legal Writing Institute, to be held in Indiana in July, 2008. This is the leading national conference on legal writing and we are thrilled that ULV College of Law will be represented there by Professor Knolton.


David Foate is named Editor-in-Chief of Volume 30 of the University of La Verne Law Review.
David Foate '09 has been named the Editor-in-Chief of Volume 30 of the University of La Verne Law Review. Mr. Foate, a 2006 graduate of Brigham Young University, is a staff member of Volume 29, and is the author of a Comment, "Do Federal Courts Really Want Parents Involved? Using No Child Left Behind to Fight Re-segregation," which has received multiple offers of publication in outside law journals.


ULV COL's first-ever nominee to the Scribes/American Society of Legal Writers annual Notes-and-Comments Competition is Benjamin Ruesch '09.  Mr. Ruesch's Comment, "Practical Solutions for Child-Soldier Asylum-Seekers: Why Admission to the United States Should Be Granted," will be forthcoming in Volume 29 of the La Verne Law Review/Journal of Juvenile Law. The winner of this competition will be announced at the National Conference of Law Reviews, which will be attended this year for the first time by Volume 29 Editor in Chief Steve Messner '08 and the Editor in Chief of Volume 30, who will be selected at the end of February.
